Ataraxia’24 inter-school quiz competition
Ataraxia’24 the interschool qui competition was organized in anticipation of encouraging students to discover more about science outside the textbooks.
The competitors from invited schools participated as a teamof four memebrs and there was only one team from eac school.
The competition was conduted in three main pjases. The first quiz competition waa held online on Friday, 19th July 2024. As for the second rpumd of the quiz competition, Royal College, Ananda College, Thurstan College and Mahanama College, which were the four scjools with the highest marks from the first round were selected. A practicalsession on Physics and Chemistry was organized at the school laboratory premises as the second round.
The final round of the interschopl quiz competitio was held on the Science Day as a Q&A session. Semi-finalists were awarded certificates and the finalists were awarded medals, certificated and the shield.
Sci Vision’24 Inter and intra school competition series
SciVision the inter and intra school competition series consisted AI image generation competition, science fiction competition and article writing competition. The entries were collected through a google form. Three winners from each category were appreciated on the Science Day.
Elpida’24 webinar series
Elpida’24 webinar series was based on the theme, Nanotechnology in Chemical Engineering.
The first webinar was held on 20th July 2024. Webinars were conducted online twice a month. Webinars were conducted by Dr. Nadeeka Tissera, who was an illustrious past Visakhian and a Senior Lecturer at University of Mortuwa.
Students from grades 6-13 who were interested in Nanotechnology from our school and other invited schools were able to join the lectures.
Epesteme’24 Annual Science Day
Episteme’24 the Annual Science Day was held on 30th August 2024 at the Jeremias Dias Hall. This was based on the theme Nanotechnology in Chemical Engineering. Dr. Nalin De Silva FRSC, Chair Senior Professor of Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, University of Colombo honoured the evening as the chief guest and Dr. Nadeeka Tissera, an illustrious past Visakhian and Senior Lecturer at University of Moratuwa graced the occasion as the guest of honour. A drama featuring the advantages and the practical usage of Nanotechnology and other entertainment items were performed by the grade 12 science students. The final round of Ataraxia’24 the interschool quiz competition was held and Royal College secured the championship against Ananda College. The evening concluded with the distribution of certificated to the winners of intra and inter school competitions.
Oceania’24 oceanography and marine biology project
Oceania’24 oceanography and marine biology project which was organized in collaboration with the Science Association of Royal College and The Society of Oceanology and Oceanography of University of Ruhuna was held on 20th December 2024 at the Polhena beach and University of Ruhuna for the 3rd consecutive year. This project included beach clean up, snorkelling, lecture at University f Ruhuna and a campfire.
Lecture series on Artificial Intelligence
A lecture series on Artificial Intelligence was held on 22nd September in collaboration with the SLIIT University, Malabe. The 2nd lecture was held on 3rd October 2024 in collaboration with the University of Paradeniya. Over 500 students from our school and other invited schools participated and widened their knowledge on AI through these lectures.
